Creating a Vibrant Heart for Cardinal Gilroy Village

Official opening at Cardinal Gilroy Village Community Centre

On 24 April 2025, the spirit of community was on full display as we celebrated the official opening of the new Community Centre at Cardinal Gilroy Village—a vibrant and welcoming space that has quickly become the new heart of village life.

More than 100 residents, staff, and guests gathered for the occasion. The celebrations began with a traditional Smoking Ceremony and Acknowledgement of Country, paying respect to the Dharug people, the Traditional Custodians of the land. As the smoke drifted across the gathering, it set a tone of reflection, pride, and new beginnings. A moving performance by Australian Idol winner Royston Noell followed, filling the new Centre with music and energy and making the day even more memorable.

The Centre was officially opened by Southern Cross Care Chair Caroline Waldron, with special guest State Member for Granville, Julia Finn MP, joining the celebrations. Caroline spoke about the importance of creating spaces where residents can connect, build friendships, and continue living full and active lives. The enthusiasm in the room was clear, with residents, guests, and staff excited to see the new space come to life.

Already, the Community Centre is being embraced as the new heart of village life. “It’s such a beautiful place to come together,” said Margaret, a long-time resident. “You can already feel the happiness it’s bringing to everyone.” Residents are now voting to select a new name for the Centre, with a shortlist developed from suggestions made by the community. Naming is well underway, and there’s a real sense of excitement about what the new identity will represent. “It’s lovely that we’ve been asked to be part of the naming,” said John. “It really feels like it’s our home.”

A heartfelt thank you to everyone involved in bringing this vision to life—from the project and property teams who worked behind the scenes, to the staff who supported residents and helped create such a memorable opening event. Your efforts have created a space that will be enjoyed for years to come.

We look forward to announcing the chosen name soon and to seeing the Centre continue to grow as a place of connection, celebration, and community spirit at Cardinal Gilroy Village.
