Modern Slavery Statement

As we have recently issued our 2024 Modern Slavery Statement, Southern Cross Care (NSW & ACT) continues its campaign to strongly oppose all forms of modern slavery and the harm it inflicts upon its victims, their families, their communities, and society as a whole.

We strive to carry out our activities in a manner that respects and supports the protection of human rights and ensures that those we do business with do the same.

Throughout 2025, we are strengthening our commitment to being a leader in the prevention of modern slavery.

This year, our focus is on deepening collaboration with suppliers, industry experts, and external stakeholders to ensure ethical practices are embedded across every stage of our supply chain.

We are refining our tools and internal procurement and purchasing policies to focus on a proactive approach. Our contract and procurement procedures are being reviewed and updated to ensure they stay strong against modern slavery risks.

From vendor onboarding to ongoing supplier certification, we’re making sure our workplace remains safe, inclusive, and free from modern slavery risks. We are using ethical data exchanges to help assess and screen vendors for potential risks, ensuring we engage only with partners who share our values and respect for human dignity.

We believe lasting change happens when everyone is involved. Throughout the year, we’ll offer awareness opportunities for all staff, with the help of industry professionals who will share real-world insights into how modern slavery affects businesses and communities.

Through this, we aim to build a culture of understanding and shared responsibility. We’ll also be recognising and highlighting the efforts of suppliers who are leading the way in ethical practices. Together, we form a community - and it takes a community to make lasting change.

To maintain transparency, we will publish regular updates outlining our progress, and achievements in this space. These reports will shine a light not only on our actions but also on the positive steps our suppliers are taking.

Finally, our procurement team will participate in industry working groups facilitated through ACAN and focused on improving ethical sourcing practices in areas like catering, cleaning, medical equipment, uniforms, and labour hire.

By staying active in these conversations, we’re helping to shape best practices and drive change that extends beyond our organisation.

Together, we are building a future where modern slavery has no place.
