Sweta Subedi’s light is shining bright after being named the Rising Star in the inaugural NSW Nurses and Midwives’ Association (NSWNMA) Stronger Together Awards 2025.
Announced on International Nurses Day and attracting more than 150 nominations, the award recognises and celebrates exceptional emerging talent in nursing across NSW.
Sweta's journey from the foothills of Nepal to Thornton Park Residential Care has been marked by quiet determination and a deep-seated desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the residents.
Raised in a family devoted to community wellbeing, including a mother who is a nurse, she always knew healthcare was her calling.
She graduated with a Bachelor of Nursing in 2021 and joined Southern Cross Care in 2022 as a registered nurse.
Today, she serves as Clinical Care Coordinator, leading with empathy and a deep commitment to those in her care.
“I’ve always wanted to make a positive impact, especially for the most vulnerable in our community,” Sweta said. “Making a difference is what motivates me every single day.”
It’s a drive clearly felt by those around her. Sweta was nominated by fellow registered nurse and mentor, David Mwengi.
“Just being nominated by someone I look up to was like I had already won,” Sweta shared.
“The award is the icing on top. I can’t believe it; it really is an honour to be recognised for doing what I love.”
For Sweta, the smiles of the residents are her daily reward. But this statewide recognition has reaffirmed what many already knew: she is a rising star not only for her clinical skills but for her unwavering heart.
“I’m so proud to be part of this profession,” she said. “And even prouder to keep giving back at Southern Cross Care - just like my family taught me.”
Facility Manager Richal Ghimire said Sweta’s journey is not only a personal achievement but a powerful inspiration for their entire team.
“Sweta joined Thornton Park as a Registered Nurse in 2022, and hasn’t looked back,” she said.
“Her dedication, compassion, and exceptional work ethic have recently earned her a well-deserved promotion to Clinical Care Coordinator.
“Being honoured with the International Nurses Day Award by the NSW Nurses' Association is a true testament to her impact and excellence.
“We are incredibly proud to have her as part of our Thornton Park team and her success reminds us of what can be achieved through hard work and heart.”
