Southern Cross Care (NSW & ACT) is proud to announce that we have been awarded Gold Partner status in the NSW Government’s Sustainability Advantage program, recognition of our strong and ongoing commitment to environmental leadership.
SCC is one of the few aged care providers recognised as a Sustainability Advantage Gold Partner.
Former Head of Change & Sustainability Stella Thorndike said the achievement reflected the organisation’s deep commitment to caring for people while protecting the environment that supports our communities.
“Achieving Sustainability Advantage Gold recognition is something we are deeply proud of,” she said.
“It reflects the commitment across Southern Cross Care (NSW & ACT) to look after not only the people in our care today but the world they will continue to live in tomorrow.
“Through our Living Care Action Plan for People and Planet, our teams have been quietly transforming the way we operate, from energy and waste to gardens, biodiversity and everyday choices that make our communities stronger.”
Stella said the recognition demonstrated what was possible when sustainability became part of an organisation’s mission.
“Over the past two years our teams have embraced practical changes, large and small, that are reducing our environmental impact while creating healthier, more vibrant places for residents, clients and staff.”
Becoming a Gold Partner places SCC among a select group of organisations leading the way in environmental performance and long-term sustainability planning. Gold recognition lasts for three years, after which organisations may reapply to demonstrate continued progress.
While the achievement is significant, Stella emphasised that it marked a point along a much larger journey.
“Sustainability is not a side project for SCC. It’s part of how we think about care, community and the future,” she said.
“Achieving Gold status recognises the real progress our people have made in turning the Living Care Plan into practical action across our homes, villages and services. It reflects the dedication of our teams who are proving every day that better environmental choices also create better places to live and work.
“Sustainability is becoming part of how SCC operates every day, and achieving Gold recognition reflects the commitment across the organisation to turn ambition into action.”
