Marsfield Opens Its Doors
Some of the visitors to the Community Open Day at Marsfield Retirement Village

Our Marsfield Retirement Village opened its doors recently to give people a genuine look at what retirement living really feels like. Around 50 visitors joined us for a Community Open Day that captured the comfort, friendliness and sense of belonging residents often describe as “the perfect fit”.

Part of a broader Southern Cross Care initiative, our villages have been welcoming the community in to experience village life firsthand, and Marsfield offered a shining example of what makes retirement living so rewarding.

Known for its rich sense of community, shaped by residents from diverse cultures, beliefs and life experiences, guests felt that spirit from the moment they arrived, greeted with morning tea lovingly prepared and served by the residents themselves.

Guided tours of the beautifully styled display units highlighted the ease of maintenance free living, while strolls through the leafy grounds revealed the relaxed rhythm of village life.

An engaging presentation by industry expert Donna Heagney from Going Places offered practical advice on downsizing and preparing for life’s next chapter, sparking thoughtful conversations among attendees.

Over lunch, visitors mingled and chatted with residents, who answered all their questions.

Many pointed to the village’s unique social fabric, which includes a small group of religious sisters and a retired priest who live harmoniously alongside neighbours from all walks of life. As Marist Sister Noelene Simmons often shares, Marsfield offers the ideal balance of independence, support and genuine neighbourly care.

The Open Day generated strong interest, with six attendees expressing future plans, three of whom are ready to move in when the right ground floor unit becomes available.

Additional appointments are now underway for those who couldn’t attend. More Open Days across our villages are planned for 2026.
