The Marian Official Opening

In a vibrant display of unity and cultural respect, Southern Cross Care (NSW & ACT) officially opened its newest aged care home, Marian Residential Care, during National Reconciliation Week.

The opening reflects our deep commitment to Reconciliation and vision of creating inclusive communities where every voice and story is valued.

More than just a milestone for North Parramatta, the event highlighted our ongoing dedication to fostering connection, respect, and belonging across all our homes.

Live-streamed to more than 3000 staff, residents and clients, the official opening was attended by Southern Cross Care (NSW & ACT) Chair Caroline Waldron, CEO Monique Reynolds and First Nations Advisor Brooke Prentis. They were joined by Member for Parramatta Dr Andrew Charlton and Principal Policy Officer, Older People’s Mental Health Policy Unit, NSW Ministry of Health, Elizabeth Abbott.

Brimming with colour and meaning, the celebration featured a captivating performance by Aboriginal Dance and Didgeridoo artists Walangari Karntawarra and Diramu, followed by entertainment from 2023 Australian Idol winner Royston Noell.

“In aged care, we understand deeply the value of stories passed between generations, the wisdom held by Elders, and the importance of connection to place and community,” said Caroline Waldron, Chair of Southern Cross Care (NSW & ACT).

“These principles guide us as we create spaces where all cultures are honoured, and all voices are heard.

“This week in particular calls us to reflect on our shared history and commitment to building relationships based on trust and respect.

“This isn’t a refurbishment, it’s a reimagining of what aged care can and should be, a place that feels like home.”

Marian Residential Care is a state-of-the-art facility purpose-built to support residents with complex care needs.

Drawing on internationally recognised dementia and enabling design principles, the home promotes familiarity, comfort, and meaningful engagement — all within a homelike environment that places the wellbeing of residents at its heart.

It features our unique Model of Care and Engagement, which ensures residents’ needs are met by a range of skilled and knowledgeable staff including diversional therapists, a yoga teacher, qualified chef, physiotherapist, recreation and engagement staff, exercise support staff, alongside registered nurses and dedicated care staff.

CEO Monique Reynolds noted that the opening of Marian Residential Care marks not just a milestone in infrastructure but a reaffirmation of Southern Cross Care’s values.

“This facility brings together best-practice clinical care with a deep respect for cultural identity and emotional wellbeing. It’s about creating a true home — one that celebrates individuality while fostering connection.”
