A message from our Care Team December 2023

2023 Clinical Governance Conference on leadership
The 2023 Care and Clinical Governance Conference in November brought together managers from care operations to connect and learn.

Among many interesting sessions, we focused on communication and the positive impact that effective listening has on our teams, our residents, clients and families.

Leadership Facilitator Naomi Nash explored the true meaning of leadership and how expectations around leadership have changed in recent years.

My thanks to all the presenters and to everyone who worked hard to help make the conference a success.

Sit & Shower solution wins grant
Southern Cross Care (NSW & ACT), Queensland University of Technology and AFH (Automation for Humanity) have been awarded the Aged Care Research & Industry Innovation Australia (ARIIA) grant to address the usability and acceptance of an innovative bathing solution, ‘Sit & Shower’ in residential aged care in Australia.

The project will address key sustainable aspects of aged care including residents’ dignity, safety, independence, health and satisfaction, and caregivers’ job satisfaction, comfort, and safety.

Stay COVID safe this Christmas
As 2023 draws to a close I would like to remind everyone to stay safe over the holidays.

It is important for our residents and clients to remain socially connected and spend time with their family and loved ones during the festive season.

Key to this is reducing the risk of outbreaks in our residential care homes so it’s important to remain alert to health risks, including all circulating respiratory viruses.

Please do not visit an aged care facility if you have tested positive for COVID-19 in the last seven days. Please also stay away if you have any cold or flu symptoms - even if you are currently testing negative for COVID-19.

In the interests of safety, visitors and staff will continue to wear masks throughout the festive period.

For more information about keeping our residential aged care residents safe this summer, please visit NSW Health website or speak to a team member.

At Southern Cross Care NSW & ACT, we always welcome feedback from residents, clients, and representatives and have various mechanisms in place including our regular surveys, resident and representative meetings, Consumer Advisory Body, Quality Care Advisory Body, and our compliments and complaints forms. Your feedback plays an important part in our continuous improvement framework. Please continue to send your feedback to us via mechanisms provided or you can visit our website www.sccliving.org.au/contact. Thank you.

I hope you enjoy the festive season and wishing you health and happiness in 2024.

Gaynor Squillacioti, COO
